MISS-UNDERSTOOD BEAUTY – Lifesize Magpie
This was a lovely commission, as it was in memory of someone very special and I was asked for this lifesize magpie sculpture to look young and kind….not something you equate magpies with and how do you make a magpie look young? But it came together over time.
When I began my research for this lifesize sculpture of a magpie, I realised, they have amazing characters and are known for interaction with humans, as they are incredibly intelligent birds, belonging to the crow family. They are known for their amazing plumage and distinctive chattering call and I now look at them in a different way, as they often hop along the ground on the side of a road, or in a field.
In this bronze sculpture of a magpie I have wanted to elevate the importance of this bird, showing it in all its glory, emphasising the lovely blue plumage, looking up at the viewer, with kind eyes….there’s a slight twist in the body, and a feeling he will do anything to please you.
