THE GREAT ESCAPE II – Running Hare
Sighting a wild hare is an electric, fleeting moment, a flash of movement before it vanishes. The Great Escape II captures that sudden burst of speed and survival. Hares rely on lightning-fast zigzags and sharp evasions to escape, and I wanted to translate that fluid power into bronze.
To accentuate this linear momentum, I sculpted the original using scrim and plaster, allowing the fibrous, gestural qualities of the material to drive the sweeping curves. With exaggerated paws, stretched proportions, and raw tension in its face and body, the sculpture captures a creature sprinting for its life, rounding the bend just before it disappears into the landscape.
