This unique exterior installation transforms a private London townhouse into a point of connection for the entire neighborhood. Born from a desire to symbolize community and local identity, these starling sculptures serve as a subtle yet striking “talking point” for passersby.
Why the Starling?
While many artists look toward exotic subjects, this commission celebrates a quintessential English bird that is often overlooked. Starlings are the ultimate symbols of social cohesion. Known for their incredible communication and murmurations, they represent the strength found in numbers and the vibrant chatter of city life. By bringing the starling to the forefront, we highlight the beauty of London’s everyday wildlife.
I made sure they were all interacting with oneanother as well as the viewer and there is a subtle comic element in some of the way they stand or in how they are singing their heart out!
