MAYOR OF THE ALPS – Head of a Chamois
Living in the Alps for three years, I became captivated by the quiet resilience of the mountain wildlife, but none stood out as vividly as the Chamois. To me, they are the true sovereigns of the vertical landscape—agile, regal, and perpetually alert.
In this sculpture, I wanted to move beyond a simple anatomical study to capture the ‘quickness’ of the animal. Through the subtle turn of the head and the powerful, listening shape of the ears, the piece explores a moment of heightened awareness. I use my tools and fingers to build form in an incidental way, leaving traces of the making process to mirror the rugged, tactile energy of the mountains. It is a study of a creature that is never truly still, even in its most silent moments.
